Tired

Woke up tired today
Had a dream that I was tired
People keep asking if I feel okay
I’m okay just tired
Met an old timer who’d just retired
And even he asked me why I looked so tired
Man I was so tired
I didn’t realize
My license had expired
My boss had been fired
My wife desired
My dog sired
My jaw wired
Man I’m just plain tired
Tired of being led
Tired of being misled
Tired of being read
Tired of being misread
Tired of being awoken
Tired of being awake
Tired of being broken
Tired of seeing the break
All this seeing gets me tired
All this believing gets me tired
And if seeing is believing
What I see makes me believe I’m tired
This being tired is exhausting
Approach each curb with caution
I’m K car now from Porsche
Like some Sominex endorser
There was a time you know when I was not tired
Oh yes!
When work was not a chore
Doing push-ups on the floor
Long walks upon the shore
Woke up begging for more
Feeling so complete
Wings upon my feet
Slept without a sheet
My room was always neat
But then it happened
Approached my sleepy phase
Just one quick nap into
A creeping malaise
That went on for days
Like I took some of Jimi’s Purple haze
I was stuck in a maze
A rodents maze, not corn
Like the 70’s commercial
A somnambulist’s porn
That eventually will immerse you
Can’t escape it, videotape it,
Pro-rate it, understate it
It is what it is,
You’re sleepy and you don’t know why
BTW could you go get me a toothpick for my left eye
My right one ain’t no picnic either
Like I just inhaled some ether
You might mistake me for a non breather
You know dead like in the Zone
Buried next to my doggy’s bone
Left all alone
Silence on the other end of the phone
Asleep phone call surprise
“Hey dude did I wake you”
“Nah I was just resting my eyes”
That and so many other lies
Dude are you on drugs?
And of course no one believes
They keep trying to take my car keys
All this and more….and really
I’m just tired……..really!
Now can you leave me alone so I can get some sleep!
